Set Clear Expectations Early
Start strong by giving your teachers a recital checklist and a clear timeline. Outline expectations for choreography, costume deadlines, and practice schedules. Make sure they understand their role in the big picture—classroom management, communicating with parents, and helping students feel confident. A quick Q&A session or written guidelines can go a long way in creating consistency across your team.

Help Teachers Prep Their Students
Leading up to your recital, encourage teachers to create a consistent routine that includes time for technique, choreography, and performance skills. Repetition is key! Breaking dances into smaller sections and incorporating mini “recital run-throughs” during class can help build confidence. Remind teachers that keeping things fun and focused will help students stay engaged as the big day approaches.
Set deadlines for finishing choreography, turning their dances away from the mirror, and performing without cues.
Support Parent Communication
Clear communication with families is essential—and your teachers can help! Provide email templates or handouts they can easily share with parents. Ask them to reinforce important details in class like arrival times, costume reminders, and backstage procedures. Be sure to address common parent concerns, especially for first-time recital families. A little reassurance can make a big difference.
We like encouraging teachers to step into the hallway in between their classes in the weeks leading up to recital. They can give reminders, connect with parents, and be available for questions.
Make Recital Day Smooth for Teachers
On recital day, give each teacher clear responsibilities and a backstage plan to follow. Knowing who’s in charge of what helps everything run more smoothly and keeps the energy calm and positive for the kids. Empower your staff to lead with confidence and celebrate their hard work right alongside their students.
Their #1 responsibility on recital day is to support and celebrate their dancers. This means SO much to their students and can play a big role in retention.
Recital season is a team effort, and your teachers play a huge part in making it magical. Take the time to check in, offer support, and celebrate their contributions. Your families and students WILL notice.
